Truly unique Triumph Dolomite Sprint. Cosmetic replica of 1977 Manx Rally Sprint driven by Pat Ryan & Mike Nicholson. Vehicle built 3rd July 1979 for RHD home market with Overdrive. Vehicle extensively restored during a six-year project to replicate "The Last Works" outing of the Dolomite Sprint.
This vehicle is unique in not only it's appearance / specification but in its history. Out of comprehensive research into the BL Works cars & this particular vehicle's previous history; it was discovered its first owner/driver was Pat Ryan - BL Works driver. This is not a Works car. Mr. Ryan was traced, contacted and during the project personally provided a previously unheard insight into the Works Sprints. The research into this project was extensive and expensive. A large text & photographic l ibrary was accumulated, several pictures from the Pat's own archive, in order to the get the car millimetre perfect.
This Sprint was taken back to bare metal and new panels were used where any doubt existed in the original metal. Re-chroming followed and a new stitched vinyl roof was installed, as was all correct new badges and windscreen sun strip detailing.
Many of the "Works" modifications were remanufactured, as few original parts still exist. These include: correct Works Sprint double lamp brackets / removable roll cage / rally dash / correct bonnet detailing / stainless rally exhaust / lamp covers / Alpine rally driver seat (original D/seat available) / custom made alloy seat frame / Willans harnesses / front and rear windscreen alloy securing plates / unique full custom 1977 Manx Rally decals etc.
Adjustable suspension is fitted and the engine was previously rebuilt with brand new factory components (when these were still available). The engine is like new on the inside and has had the viscous coupling fan removed in place of a bespoke, electric cooling system that runs faultlessly (BMW parts) and keeps the engine from getting anywhere near to over heating. Electronic ignition is also fitted. The vehicle is mechanically maintained by a well know expert who tends to the remaining works TR7 vV8's. Un-modified (even no K&N's), rolling road tuned at 103bhp at wheels 120bhp out of engine. This is a very reliable and quick car. This Sprint goes as good as it looks. Previous concours winner – Northern Dolly day.
Further details / photographs can be obtained if needed.
The Sprint comes with 12 months MOT & 6 months Tax.
Full document files will be sold with the Sprint as will a CD of the restoration process etc.
The original 1977 Manx Rally Trophy and the original BL Works rally jacket worn by Pat Ryan on the actual Manx 1977 event can be purchased with the Sprint together with the rare photographic archive / signed helmet and the original artwork for the rally decals.
A large spares collection including: front wings / a rear N/S wing / boot lid / lamp covers / lamps / F&R windscreens / seals / spare set of alloys / overdrive / engine parts / lamps / workshop manuals / 1970's rally books/mags inc: 1977 RAC blue book etc, are also available, to the purchaser in the first instance.
Vehicle located in South Yorkshire.
